Hong Kong Rail Operator MTR Collaborates with GE Transportation on Application of Tempo CBTC and Interlocking Solutions
Berlin, Germany -– GE Transportation (NYSE: GE), the world’s leading provider of innovative rail products and services, is studying a fit for its Tempo CBTC Solution and Interlocking Solution in Hong Kong’s MTR metro infrastructure.
MTR Corporation and GE Transportation recently signed an agreement to assess the feasibility of applying GE’s Tempo system to meet MTR’s current and future operating needs. The collaboration began in June 2012 and will continue through May 2014 and includes Tempo CBTC and Interlocking systems, part of GE Transportation’s Tempo Railway Solutions portfolio for mass transit and mainline operators.

The MTR-GE Transportation trial efforts are part of MTR’s ongoing effort to evaluate new technologies and the associated functionality and their positive impact on the optimal and continuous efficiency of the equipment and systems it deploys.

Tempo Railway Solutions offers customers a breadth of advanced products designed around a common failsafe, scalable, hardware and software platform as well as an integrated suite of engineering tools, the combination of which simplifies railway signaling project execution, day-to-day operation and maintenance. In particular, the Tempo CBTC and Interlocking solutions are designed to support the ever higher traffic density of urban lines. It provides mass transit operators with signaling solutions that meet their current and future requirements of cost and time efficiency to deploy and sustain systems with minimum revenue service impact and maximum energy efficiency.
Work will focus first on the Tempo Interlocking Solution, followed by the fully automated Tempo CBTC solution.
This strategic partnership is designed to assess how the Tempo solutions could further improve MTR’s industry leading service in terms of headway and journey times while still enhancing system performance in areas such as energy savings, safety, maintainability, availability, reliability, environmental friendliness, interoperability, system response and recovery time. The project will also give MTR the opportunity to analyze how GE Tempo’s high scalability could meet MTR’s future network expansion needs.
