GE and its Employees Donate $1.7 Million to United Way of Erie County
Erie, Penn., -– GE Transportation, a unit of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), today announced a $1.7 million contribution to United Way of Erie County, the result of the company’s 2011 United Way campaign. The donation combines employee contributions with a 50 percent match from the GE Foundation.
The individual donations of GE employeesincreased by approximately 29 percent compared to campaign results in 2010. GE Transportation hired 1300 employees at its Erie manufacturing plant in 2011 alone. Increased employment was one factor that contributed to GE’s giving levels.
Lorenzo Simonelli, President and CEO of GE Transportation, said: “I am so very proud of all our employees who donate their time and money to United Way in our community to make a lasting, positive difference for our neighbors in need. It’s great to find ourselves in the position to give.”

GE Transportation has served as one of the most active corporate citizens in the greaterErie areafor more than 100 years. In addition to financial support, employees provide intellectual resources to non-profit organizations. GE employees financial support is complemented with a growing spirit of volunteerism, as GE employees and members of the extended GE family provide thousands hours of community service everyyear. GE Transportation will host a “GE Works in the Community Day” on Saturday, June 2, to benefit a host of local non-profit organizations.
The donation is one that willhelp United Way of Erie County advance as a leader in reducing poverty, helping over 100,000 local residents each year by focusing on the building blocks of life: Education, Income, and Health.

GE Transportation will be recognized at this year’s United Way 2012 Annual Meetingon May 16 as one of the local businesses that increased their donations over the previous year campaign.
