GE Transportation’s Galesburg Field Services Interns talk summer jobs in the locomotive industry
Field Services Interns Jake Thompson, Ulysses Pinedo and Kolt Atkinson pose in the Galesburg facility.
We continued our trip across the United States to hear from Field Services interns in Galesburg, Illinois on how their summer tasks at GE Transportation are preparing them for their future careers.
At a facility situated about 50 miles from Davenport, Iowa, our Galesburg interns keep busy receiving parts, improving processes and shop operations, and providing superior customer service.
Jacob Thompson, an engineering technology student at Western Illinois University, spends his day assisting in daily operations in the shop while working on projects to improve processes. During the summer session, he worked with other interns and co-ops assisting new technical advisors on easing their transition into their roles in addition to managing tools and free issue material.
Similar to Thompson, Ulysses Pinedo works to improve the daily operations of the shop while providing technical assistance.
“The GE Field Services Team in Galesburg has taught me that quality and meeting customer demands are most important in order to maintain a continous flow of operations,” said Pinedo.
The masters of engineering technology student at Western Illinous University also contributes to the flow of operations by assisting the technical advisors and the customers with the technical expertise that he has gained over the past year as an intern for GE.
Kolt Atkinson, a student at Montana State University Northern majoring in auto technology, receives parts in and orders parts out on Oracle, charges parts out using E-Services, and many other tasks in the Materials Department.
“I have learned that safety is always first, no matter what you’re doing,” added Atkinson.
Besides stressing the importance of safety around locomotives, he said learning about how locomotives are managed and repaired from day to day is interesting in addition to learning more about the diesel aspect of engines.
Thanks for all your hard work this summer!
